Crown & Bridge

Crown is commonly referred as a ‘cap’ and covers part of or the complete tooth while Bridge is used to replace a ‘gap’ due to missing tooth/teeth. The adjacent tooth/teeth are used to hang the bridge. We fix all the four main types of bridges: Traditional fixed bridge, Cantilever bridge, Maryland dental bridge & Implant supported bridge. We fix crowns of Metal (Gold..etc..), metal infused ceramics or Ceramics. We will carefully select color formulation and then individually design and create the crown to match your individual needs. This includes careful control of the shape, form, and color of your customized restoration. In the first sitting, the pros and cons of all alternates will be discussed and course of treatment will be decided.

Dental Crown & Bridge - More Info

A dental bridge can replace one or more missing teeth with artificial (fake) teeth to close the gap.

Procedure

The side teeth, abutment teeth, are shaped to give base support to the crown for the bridge. Impressions are taken and bridge is fabricated as per the requirements. Sometimes a temporary bridge is fixed till the new one is ready and fixed properly.

Types of Bridge

Several designs and materials are used for bridge fabrication depending upon the size of gap, aesthetics and function.

The four main types of bridges are:

Traditional fixed bridge:

There are two or more crowns and a filler tooth or teeth in between. The crowns keep the bridge in place.

Cantilever bridge:

In this bridge type, the pontic (False Teeth) connects to only one abutment tooth on the side.

Maryland dental bridge (resin-bonded bridge):

Extension on each side of the bridge are attached to inside of your existing teeth on both sides.

Implant supported bridge:

This bridge is similar to a “traditional fixed bridge” but it is held in place by implants.

Life of Bridge

If you care for your bridge properly, it can last up to 10 years without complications. The bridge may fail if the surrounding teeth decay or if the cement deteriorates.

Dental Crown

When a tooth is cracked or area to be filled is too large for a normal filling, crown can offer support and aesthetics needed. A dental crown encases the entire visible region of the tooth and serves as its new outer surface, whereas a filling just covers a tiny portion of a tooth. It results a tooth which is same as its original shape, size, and color. This protection aspect of crowns often extends the life of a tooth.

Dental bridges are far more stable than dentures and let you continue eating the foods you enjoy. In addition, they prevent bone loss, which is a problem that patients with dentures frequently experience. An impression of the mouth is taken by the doctor and the crown is fabricated in the laboratory.

Custom shade matching of the teeth is very important to ensure that it can not be distinguished from the existing natural teeth.

Crown can be made from different materials depending upon the requirements such as function / aesthetics, patient preference and the condition of the tooth.

With the right maintenance, crowns can last for many years and keep your jaw healthy and functional. Many patients report their crowns last up to 15 years. The lifespan of the crown will depend on many factors, including oral hygiene routine and wear and tear amount.
